HMRC extends Brexit TSP

Written by exactlogistics. Posted in News

On 22 March HMRC announced further details of measures to support businesses with new customs requirements, if the UK leaves the EU without a Brexit deal.

HMRC support for importers

HMRC is extending arrangements already announced for traders to use Transitional Simplified Procedures (TSP) which will make importing easier. This includes:

  • an extension of the date when the first supplementary customs declarations must be submitted, and any import duties must be paid, to 4 October 2019, with subsequent declarations submitted monthly
  • making TSP available at all UK ports if the UK leaves the EU without a deal

TSP is designed for businesses importing goods to the UK from the EU that may be new to import declarations. Once they have registered for an EORI number they can take the simple next step and register for TSP. Both are free and quick to do.

HMRC is urging all importers to make the necessary preparations should we leave the EU without a deal.

Once a business is registered for TSP, it will be able to transport goods from the EU into the UK without having to make full customs declarations at the border or pay import duties straight away, to allow businesses time to prepare for usual import processes. To support businesses, HMRC announced that it is giving them more time to adjust to these new requirements.

For most goods imported using TSP, traders will be able to delay putting in customs declarations for the first 6 months after EU exit. Businesses will have until 4 October 2019 to submit declarations and pay any import duty for goods imported up to 30 September 2019. After that, customs declarations and payments will need to be made on the fourth working day of the following month.

HMRC is also giving importing businesses until 30 September 2019 to provide a guarantee that is required to cover any customs duties that they wish to defer. This will apply for all importers, not just those who have registered for TSP.

BBC Brexit interview

Adam Shuter interviewed by Ben Russell

“Uncertainty is the real Brexit problem”

One year on from the referendum, Exact’s Adam Shuter was interviewed by Ben Russell of BBC Coventry & Warwickshire as part of a report on the impact of Brexit on local businesses.

Adam felt that the climate had changed slightly over the last year. Our German customers see Brexit as a problem, albeit a temporary one which can be overcome. The real problem for Exact Logistics is the uncertainty. We will deal with the outcomes once they become clear.

The interview was aired this morning at 08.25 on the Breakfast with Trish Adudu Show. You can listen at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/player/p054z78z

60m trees delivered on time

Written by exactlogistics. Posted in News

We have delivered the 60 millionth tree for a leading UK grower.

J&A Growers, based in Wasperton in south Warwickshire, is encouraging wholesalers to buy British with help from Exact Logistics.

The company, which only sells directly to wholesalers, relies on Exact Logistics to quickly and carefully deliver the live trees to its clients across the UK as it competes against the Dutch market.

J&A Growers is the leading UK grower of quality bareroot trees and hedging and says sticking to UK trees can help to keep devastating tree diseases which could be brought in from abroad at bay.

And due to the popular demand, Exact Logistics, based on the Dunchurch Trading Estate in London Road, has now delivered a landmark 60 million trees for the company.

J&A Growers 1

Jamie Dewhurst, of J&A Growers, said: “We don’t sell directly to the individual customer, only to the wholesaler, which means we deal with huge volumes of trees. It is critical that these get to our customers in the best condition possible.

“We strive on providing our clients with a high quality service to encourage them to buy British as the importation of plant material poses a significant threat in the UK.

“We have been working with Exact Logistics for around six years as they offer flexible timed delivery options coupled with excellent customer communication. This means our clients can receive their orders in the morning which is essential when dealing with live plants.

“Exact are also very careful with the plants so that they are not damaged during delivery. It is a testament to the service they provide that they have delivered their 60 millionth tree for us.”

Karen Shuter, sales director of Exact Logistics, said: “We are very proud to have delivered 60 million trees for J&A Growers.

“The company values our ethos of communicate, deliver, care and takes advantage of our morning and pre 10am delivery service, which is very important when delivering live trees.

“We look forward to continuing to work with J&A Growers in the future and encouraging wholesalers to buy British.”

The company, based in Leamington Spa, has already styled a number of high profile events in the country including at the Louvre Museum, Palais Du Versailles and Cannes Film Festival. We deliver additional stock to the French office as well as pieces straight to events.

Managing Director Gary Martin said: “We set up Table Art about five years ago, creating radio controlled, battery powered light-up centre pieces. We have now also moved on to event art.

“We design and manufacture all of our products in-house at our workshop enabling us to create bespoke pieces for our customers. These are either delivered directly to the event for the customer to set up, or we can go along to style the event.

“We have seen a huge amount of growth over time and have been involved in a number of events at interesting and exciting venues. One of our most recent events was at Cannes Film Festival which was an amazing experience.

“We now have offices in the UK, Chile, Dubai and have now opened our newest office in France.”

The Dragons Den connection

Both Table Art and Exact Logistics have a celebrity connection, with Table Art being backed financially by Hilary Devey who also founded pallet distribution company Pall-Ex which Exact Logistics is an independent member of.

Gary added: “Exact Logistics do a lot of our deliveries in the UK and have been very supportive in our expansion in France.

“They enable us to deliver our pieces of table art very efficiently, with everything arriving on time which is extremely important when working in events.

“Exact’s ethos of communicate, deliver, care is also very important to us as it means they not only make deliveries on time, they also care about what they are delivering which is essential when delivering fragile items.

“All of this is helping us to build a good reputation with new clients and ensuring that we secure new business.”

Karen Shuter, sales director of Exact Logistics, said: “We have been working with Table Art for some time and are very happy to help them as they expand into France.

“We know on time delivery is crucial to Table Art as they supply their pieces to a lot of high profile events.

“We look forward to continuing to work with them in the future, helping them win and retain customers in both France and the UK.”

Pall-Ex and Table Art CEO Hilary Devey added: “When I first met Gary, I was not only bowled over by the products, but also by his passion and tenacity. I knew he had the grit it needed to make the business a success, which was why I invested. As we capitalise on the growing French market and open our new office, I couldn’t be prouder.

“Furthermore, I’m thrilled that Exact Logistics, as a member and important part of the Pall-Ex network, is able to lend its support and benefit from Table Art’s rapid growth. All of the stunning centrepieces are arriving on time and in perfect condition. It’s a case of exact by name and most definitely exact in the quality of service the team offers.”
