Mark Pawsey MP listens

Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce Rugby branch meeting

Mark Pawsey MP with Karen Shuter and local business owners

Rugby MP Mark Pawsey listens to local businesses.

Karen Shuter of Exact Logistics, as Chair of the Rugby branch of the Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, recently met Mark Pawsey MP, along with other local business owners to update him on their concerns .

A shortage of skills remains high on the list, as does the provision of broadband across the borough.

Another issue that is being felt acutely across the town and borough is the shortage of space for companies of all sizes and sectors. That goes for everything from incubator space for start-up and small companies right through to small, medium and larger enterprises who want to expand in the area, create new jobs and grow the economy.

Of course, the arrival of HS2 is another very big topic that businesses here in Rugby are concerned about and that was another matter picked up with Mark Pawsey in our meeting.

He was very keen to make note of all the issues we raised and, as a branch, we have always found that his door is open to listen to our concerns. He also highlighted areas where Government are able to support businesses if they are facing certain issues.

As you’d expect, he wanted to get across the message that he is ready to put Rugby’s case forward and to do what he can to promote the area as a great place to business.

That’s a responsibility that falls on all of us. While we know that there are issues that need resolving, we should also be first to highlight everything that Rugby and the borough has going for it and what a fantastic area it is to grow a business.

Adam Shuter interviewed by Ben Russell

“Uncertainty is the real Brexit problem”

One year on from the referendum, Exact’s Adam Shuter was interviewed by Ben Russell of BBC Coventry & Warwickshire as part of a report on the impact of Brexit on local businesses.

Adam felt that the climate had changed slightly over the last year. Our German customers see Brexit as a problem, albeit a temporary one which can be overcome. The real problem for Exact Logistics is the uncertainty. We will deal with the outcomes once they become clear.

The interview was aired this morning at 08.25 on the Breakfast with Trish Adudu Show. You can listen at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/player/p054z78z

Warning – danger of theft

Lorry drivers passing through Northamptonshire are being alerted about the dangers of thefts – 273 thefts from lorries parked in Northamptonshire have been reported to police over the past 12 months.

Superintendent Sean Bell said a new East Midlands Freight Crime Task Force has a trailer (pictured, with the RHA’s Chrys Rampley) which carries crime prevention messages in English, Polish and Romanian.  He is urging anyone seeing suspicious behaviour around a lorry to dial 999.

Northamptonshire Police is working closely with the Road Haulage Association, the motorway service station providers, the National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (NaVCIS) and neighbouring forces. Video HERE.

Amazon deliveries

Amazon Fulfilment Centre deliveries made easy

Most of us had reason to be thankful to Amazon for last-minute gifts in the run up to Christmas. However, any supplier which has tried to deliver to Amazon Fulfilment Centres knows that getting the goods delivered in is not so easy.

Exact Logistics now has a new method of delivering to Amazon UK Fulfilment Centres which means that your goods will get delivered at the correct time and without re-delivery charges. We can pre-book freight via the Pall-Ex network using the Carrier Appointment Request Portal (CARP). This new system allows the delivering Pall-Ex member to make a consolidated booking directly with the Amazon Fulfilment centre. This is Amazon UK’s preferred method for booking deliveries in to UK Fulfilment Centres and is working well.

If you need to deliver to Amazon please do not pre-book deliveries to the Fulfilment Centres but contact us for guidance.

Calais disruption

Our German partners have confirmed delays and disruption in the Calais area due to the action today (5 September) by French traders and trade unionists who are blocking the A16 motorway. The Port of Calais says diversions are in place and ferries are operating as normal. Eurotunnel has advised drivers to follow alternative routes and services are operating to schedule.

We will keep customers informed if specific deliveries are likely to be delayed.

Calais blockade 5 Sept

Blockade of Calais to start 5 September

Shopkeepers, businessmen, farmers and police unionists in Calais have pledged to block ‘indefinitely’ the motorway leading to the port with a ‘human chain’, saying they will not break it until the migrant Jungle camp that has now swollen to up to 10,000 people is totally dismantled.

Starting on Monday 5 September at 7am, the different groups will unite to block the A16 motorway in a ‘snail’ operation to block traffic. They have called on local Calais residents to join them to form a ‘human chain’ starting at the Epopée stadium and moving to the A16.

This will cause severe disruption to freight in and out of the UK via Calais which is the main port for freight to /from continental Europe. We will keep you informed.

60m trees delivered on time

Written by exactlogistics. Posted in News

We have delivered the 60 millionth tree for a leading UK grower.

J&A Growers, based in Wasperton in south Warwickshire, is encouraging wholesalers to buy British with help from Exact Logistics.

The company, which only sells directly to wholesalers, relies on Exact Logistics to quickly and carefully deliver the live trees to its clients across the UK as it competes against the Dutch market.

J&A Growers is the leading UK grower of quality bareroot trees and hedging and says sticking to UK trees can help to keep devastating tree diseases which could be brought in from abroad at bay.

And due to the popular demand, Exact Logistics, based on the Dunchurch Trading Estate in London Road, has now delivered a landmark 60 million trees for the company.

J&A Growers 1

Jamie Dewhurst, of J&A Growers, said: “We don’t sell directly to the individual customer, only to the wholesaler, which means we deal with huge volumes of trees. It is critical that these get to our customers in the best condition possible.

“We strive on providing our clients with a high quality service to encourage them to buy British as the importation of plant material poses a significant threat in the UK.

“We have been working with Exact Logistics for around six years as they offer flexible timed delivery options coupled with excellent customer communication. This means our clients can receive their orders in the morning which is essential when dealing with live plants.

“Exact are also very careful with the plants so that they are not damaged during delivery. It is a testament to the service they provide that they have delivered their 60 millionth tree for us.”

Karen Shuter, sales director of Exact Logistics, said: “We are very proud to have delivered 60 million trees for J&A Growers.

“The company values our ethos of communicate, deliver, care and takes advantage of our morning and pre 10am delivery service, which is very important when delivering live trees.

“We look forward to continuing to work with J&A Growers in the future and encouraging wholesalers to buy British.”
