Time to export

Written by exactlogistics. Posted in Export

A good time to plan your EU export strategy

Post-Brexit the export world has become even more uncertain for UK businesses. We don’t know what the future will bring but as business owners and managers we are all used to coping with uncertainty – it’s part of our day job. Now is a good time to develop an EU export strategy whilst there are no barriers. There’s an opportunity to win business and develop partnerships which can withstand whatever the politicians negotiate for us.

Europe

Europe

We have been very successful in exporting to Germany with almost 50% of our turnover now earned in Euros. We have identified a niche service for German transport companies. Germany is the largest economy in Europe and the fourth largest in the world. It is also among the largest exporters and importers of goods in the world. It’s an easy market to access – cheap flights and widespread use of English make it easy to visit customers. It can take time to build the relationship but once it is established German customers are very loyal.

Open to Export is an online community backed by government helping UK businesses to sell overseas. It’s a useful source of free and (mostly) impartial information for anyone wanting to grow through exporting. They have published a basic but useful guide to doing business in Germany http://opentoexport.com/article/guide-to-doing-business-in-germany/?utm_source=Open+to+Export+%28Master%29&utm_campaign=2c9e90ccd5-August_Newsletter8_9_2016&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b283505a55-2c9e90ccd5-95801833

Exporting to France

The art of exporting to France

We deliver to France for our customer Table Art, which creates state of the art light-up centrepieces and event art. The company  has opened a new office in Nice to build export sales.

The company, based in Leamington Spa, has already styled a number of high profile events in the country including at the Louvre Museum, Palais Du Versailles and Cannes Film Festival. We deliver additional stock to the French office as well as pieces straight to events.

Managing Director Gary Martin said: “We set up Table Art about five years ago, creating radio controlled, battery powered light-up centre pieces. We have now also moved on to event art.

“We design and manufacture all of our products in-house at our workshop enabling us to create bespoke pieces for our customers. These are either delivered directly to the event for the customer to set up, or we can go along to style the event.

“We have seen a huge amount of growth over time and have been involved in a number of events at interesting and exciting venues. One of our most recent events was at Cannes Film Festival which was an amazing experience.

“We now have offices in the UK, Chile, Dubai and have now opened our newest office in France.”

The Dragons Den connection

Both Table Art and Exact Logistics have a celebrity connection, with Table Art being backed financially by Hilary Devey who also founded pallet distribution company Pall-Ex which Exact Logistics is an independent member of.

Gary added: “Exact Logistics do a lot of our deliveries in the UK and have been very supportive in our expansion in France.

“They enable us to deliver our pieces of table art very efficiently, with everything arriving on time which is extremely important when working in events.

“Exact’s ethos of communicate, deliver, care is also very important to us as it means they not only make deliveries on time, they also care about what they are delivering which is essential when delivering fragile items.

“All of this is helping us to build a good reputation with new clients and ensuring that we secure new business.”

Karen Shuter, sales director of Exact Logistics, said: “We have been working with Table Art for some time and are very happy to help them as they expand into France.

“We know on time delivery is crucial to Table Art as they supply their pieces to a lot of high profile events.

“We look forward to continuing to work with them in the future, helping them win and retain customers in both France and the UK.”

Pall-Ex and Table Art CEO Hilary Devey added: “When I first met Gary, I was not only bowled over by the products, but also by his passion and tenacity. I knew he had the grit it needed to make the business a success, which was why I invested. As we capitalise on the growing French market and open our new office, I couldn’t be prouder.

“Furthermore, I’m thrilled that Exact Logistics, as a member and important part of the Pall-Ex network, is able to lend its support and benefit from Table Art’s rapid growth. All of the stunning centrepieces are arriving on time and in perfect condition. It’s a case of exact by name and most definitely exact in the quality of service the team offers.”

Floods in Germany

Written by exactlogistics. Posted in News

Flooding in Germany causes problems

We have reports from our partners in southern Germany and Düsseldorf of difficulties in delivering due to the severe flooding in the area. Sadly the floods have caused fatalities as well as widespread damage.

A large area of low pressure has been bringing heavy showers to much of Europe recently and this weather pattern shows no signs of shifting in the next few days.

A large swathe of the continent from central France through Belgium, Germany through southern Poland to Romania, Moldova and Ukraine looks set for further heavy, thundery showers to end the week and through the weekend.

Please be aware of these difficulties when booking deliveries or collections to or from the continent. Contact us for information on local conditions.

Positives for staying in EU

Written by webmaster. Posted in Blog

??????

Having spent the last three weeks winning new export customers in Germany I have had some time to reflect on the great EU referendum debate and I offer some thoughts based on 30 years of doing business in Europe.

What an opportunity for our children.

As I travelled from Germany to France and back again it struck me that it was a real privilege to be able to travel freely throughout countries, carry out my business and have the opportunity to immerse myself in the local culture. And I had the opportunity to practise my ability to massacre the German language. But what is important is that we appreciate this privilege and don’t deny it to our children or young people.

The Europeans need our business more than we need theirs.

We need our German customers as we have built our business on providing them with a first class “final mile” distribution service. EU rules and regulations allow us to carry out our business in Germany without any hindrance or restrictions. The result is that we have a vibrant business and our employees can share in the benefits as we are proud to pay them above the living wage.

More choice not less.

The development of borderless trading has given us all access to a wide range of goods manufactured throughout the EU at reasonable prices. We take the choice of these goods for granted.

A pool of talented labour.

Access to the EU gives us a huge pool of talented people to work in our business. The counter balance to this is we accept regulations that control the workplace to make it better for everyone. I think this is a fair trade.

Toll Bar works end Dec 16

Written by exactlogistics. Posted in News

The Highways Agency has provided a status report on the roadworks at Tollbar Island on A45 /A46

The overall programme is still on track for completion by December 2016.

  •  The main risk to slippage is related to defective bridge supports which, whilst safe, would compromise the 120 year design life.
  •  A solution to this is being investigated, and the potential impact of this on the overall programme.
  •  The scheme is progressing well, and HE will continue to open up new parts of the scheme to vehicles over the coming weeks.
  •  There have been on-going delays to vehicles on the A46 corridor during construction, but this has not significantly affected the adjacent Coventry local road network.

Forthcoming works

  • Analysis and implementation of a solution for the bridge support issue is a high priority
  •  Installation of directional signs on the gantries over A45 and the A46.
  •  Continued widening works to A46 northbound off slip to Stivichall Island
  •  Continued works on signing, fencing, lighting and tree planting
  •  Excavation, drainage and verge works to the underpass
  •  Further surfacing work on the approaches to Tollbar roundabout together with concreting work to the new bridges
  •  Repair works to the River Sowe bridge on the A45, together with waterproofing, surfacing, and further lanes opened up to traffic
  •  Completion of the new combined footpath and cycleway on the south side of the A45 between Tollbar roundabout and Stivichall junction.

Maintaining Traffic Flow

  • The contractors endeavour to maintain at least two lanes of traffic throughout the works, except during night time and off peak lane closures.
  •  CCTV cameras and Traffic Safety Officers continue to monitor traffic
  •  Contractors continue to provide warning signs at various locations two weeks in advance of any overnight closures.
