Shortlisted for Small Business of the Year

CoventryLive Business Awards 2021 celebrate business excellence across a broad range of categories. Our entry for Small Business of the Year showed how we reacted quickly and flexibly to the challenges brought by Brexit by starting a completely new customs clearance service. Speed and flexibility are what small businesses are good at.

Brexit presented a big challenge - we could have lost a significant part of our business as an export service provider. So we looked for new opportunities that Brexit could offer and started a whole new customs clearance service. We had begun to prepare but as the final deal was not announced until 24 December, we had 3 working days to finalise our new system. We used our international expertise and our close relationship with our software developer to react very quickly and by 2nd January we had a completely new service offering.  

This award is a tribute to everyone at Exact Logistics who has worked so hard this year. The whole team has learnt new skills and we have recruited and trained six new staff members.

We have always tried to work with local suppliers, small businesses like ourselves who share our ethos and can react as quickly as we do. A key component of our new service is the MoveSist™ portal developed by Coventry based RentUrApp. Our close relationship meant that they quickly understood what we needed and delivered a completely bespoke software application quickly and efficiently.

Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber Training has provided training on the new customs regime and we continue to work with them to ensure we are well-prepared for the changes ahead.

We must also thank our loyal customers who have trusted us with their freight and have supported us through the teething problems, many completely beyond our control!

A big thank you to everyone who has contributed to our success. The finalists will be announced at an awards ceremony on 14October. Fingers crossed!
